The Committee

Stephen Fry

I have lived on the Poldens for quite some time now, firstly in Shapwick and now Catcott.

I retired as a Chartered Accountant in March 2020 and now fill my time with Village Hall matters, mentoring for Promiseworks, cycling and skittling and enjoying the brilliant pubs we have on the Poldens.

I became the Village Hall Chairman in November 2022 and hope that the Committee and I will serve the communities of Edington, Catcott and other local villages well by providing events, both regular and one -off, that people want to come to and make full use of our wonderful facilities.

Sam Gilbert

I have been in the Polden's since 2009, now living in Edington. I help run our family business and have been a Parish Councillor for Edington since October 2014 and have two daughters. I also have in the past had 6 years' experience on Catcott School PTA, 4 of these were as the Chair.

I have a passion for community, am currently assisting in reforming the Edington Community Response Team and really enjoy organising events!

I joined the Village Hall committee as a Trustee in September 2021 assuming the role of fundraising co-ordinator. At the 2022 AGM I undertook the roll of Vice Chairman and hope to serve the hall and community for many years to come.

Jane Whyte

Having moved to Edington from Sussex in late 2021, I joined the Village Hall management committee in October 2022.

I have some experience from past committee roles and, as myself and my husband run our own businesses, I felt I could offer the team assistance in various areas. I also thought it would be fun.

My hobbies are mainly gardening, walking and crafting and I am currently enjoying exploring the local area with all that it has to offer.

Joe Whyte

I have lived in the Polden’s since 2021 having moved from Sussex and now live in Edington.  I joined the Village Hall management committee in early 2023.

Having held roles in various committees over the years and having run my own businesses for nearly 20 years I feel I have the experience to support the current team whilst getting to know more people in our local area.

When I get time away from work, I enjoy walking and you will often see me out around the villages with our Coker Spaniel Renli.

Rosemary Tilbury

My name is Rosemary Tilbury and I am 70 years old plus and have been a Trustee for Edington village hall since 2014.

I was chairman for three years but stood down as I had a small stroke in 2018 and felt unable to chair the meetings since then but have remained on the committee.

I am responsible for keeping the halls policies up to date and health and safety and risk assessments. I am also involved with Pete Holt making sure the films are running. I set up the-pop up sport afternoon and help with the monthly coffee mornings.

I live in Edington with my husband Brian and have lived here for 21 years. I am a retired midwife.

Adrian Pearson

I moved to the Polden Hills with my wife Sandra in 2013 following a successful career in Hampshire Constabulary from which I retired as an Inspector in 2000. After the Police I ventured into sales, initially as a Sales Co-ordinator and then software sales in Basingstoke for ten years before running my own driving school for a short period.

Since retiring completely I spend my time playing golf, skittles, and snooker. I am a keen amateur photographer and was the treasurer for the Mid Somerset Camera Club.

I recently joined the The Village Hall Committee and hope to bring my organisational skills to assisting the running of events at The Village Hall.
